A MoU was signed between the Centro Cultural India (The Indian Cultural Centre) Embassy of India, Peru and Quality Council of India for promotion of yoga in Peru, Bolivia and the adjoining Latin American region. Sandeep Chakravorty, Ambassador of India to Peru and Bolivia, and Dr. Ravi P. Singh, (Secretary General, QCI) signed the Memorandum of Understanding in presence of A. K. Ganeriwala, Joint Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH.

“I was surprised to see the level of interest in yoga and ayurveda in Peru and Bolivia. Yoga is certainly turning out to be a new tool of Indian diplomacy”, Chakravorty said.

In order to ensure quality of yoga practices across the world and declaration of International Day of Yoga by the UN, the Indian government's Ministry of AYUSH has identified the Quality Council of India (QCI) to develop a Voluntary Scheme for Evaluation and Certification of Yoga Professionals.

QCI had in the past signed a MoU with Japan and is with talks with other countries such as Malaysia, Poland, Belgium, Russia, Australia etc.
